About us
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament, The Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 for regulating the profession of Chartered Accountants in India. ICAI operates under the aegis of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs of the Government of India. It is the second-largest professional body of Chartered Accountants in the world, with a membership of over 360,000, engaged in various Government, public, private, and social organisations making a significant contribution to the world’s economy.
The ICAI has negotiated Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRA), Bilateral Co-operation Agreements, and International Pathway Programs with accounting professional bodies in various countries including the United Kingdom, Canada, South Africa, UAE, and Ireland.
In Australia, there are two mutual recognition agreements that have been signed by the ICAI with the premier accounting bodies of Australia, CAANZ and CPA Australia. The mutual agreements recognise the professional qualifications of each other’s governing Institutes in Australia and India and scope further collaborations in the fields of accounting and finance.
About Brisbane Chapter
The Brisbane Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is a non-profit organization registered in Queensland. It operates under the aegis of ICAI, fostering a strong community of Indian Chartered Accountants in Brisbane and the broader Queensland region.
Our History
The Brisbane Chapter, formally known as the Association of Indian Chartered Accountants Qld Inc (AICA), was officially incorporated on the 20th of June, 2013. It was inaugurated on the 19th of September, 2013, by the then-President of ICAI, CA Subodh Agrawal, in a ceremony that marked the beginning of a vibrant and dynamic professional community. Over the years, the Chapter has come to be fondly recognized as the Brisbane Chapter, serving as a bridge between the Indian and Australian professional landscapes.
Who We Are
The Chapter has steadily grown over the years, embracing members from diverse professional and personal backgrounds. It provides a platform for multiple membership streams and actively supports diversity and inclusion. Our members bring in-depth knowledge and expertise in understanding the social, business, and economic dynamics of both India and Australia.
Our Contribution
Currently, there are an around 3,000+ ICAI members working across Australia, with a strong representation in Brisbane. These professionals are employed in private consulting practices, corporate businesses, Big 4 professional firms, financial institutions, commerce, and state and federal government sectors. Collectively, they make a significant contribution to the Australian economy, driving innovation and excellence across industries.
Our Vision
The Brisbane Chapter remains committed to fostering professional development, networking, and collaboration opportunities for its members. It aims to strengthen ties between the Indian and Australian business communities while supporting its members in their professional growth and success.
Management Committee
Day-to-day operations of the Chapter are managed by the Chapter Committee which is selected democratically for a term of four years. The Committee comprises of four leadership positions (Chairman, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer) and two member positions.
